Fly to Chiang Mai

Most travelers to Chiang Mai still arrive via Bangkok. There are several options for direct flights to Chiang Mai. The Chiang Mai Airport has recently been expanded and can now handle more direct international flights to and from Chiang Mai.

International Flights Direct to Chiang Mai

Korean Airlines

Korea Air Plane

My favorite direct flight to Chiang Mai is by Korean Airlines. They run daily flights from Seoul to Chiang Mai. Seoul is the main hub for Korean Airlines with connecting flights to North America and Europe. The Korean flight arrives in Chiang Mai at 12:35am each night and departs at 2:00am. This flight schedule works well for persons coming from North America. Check their website for a current flight schedule if you want to fly to Chiang Mai on Korean Air.

Silk Air

Silk Air has direct flights from Singapore to Chiang Mai four days a week, Tues. Wed. Fri. and Sun. Singapore Air flys to Bangkok but if you want to fly to Chiang Mai after boarding a Singapore flight from Europe, then Silk Air is the way to go. Check the Silk Air website for their current flight schedule to Chiang Mai.

China Airlines

Taipei is the main hub for China Air with connecting flights to many worldwide destinations. China Airlines has daily flights from Taipei to Bangkok, but they only fly to Chiang Mai three days a week, Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday. Make sure you check with your travel agent for a current flight schedule when you are ready to make a reservation or booking.

Air Asia

Air Asia Plane

Air Asia is Asia's premier budget airline. They have domestic routes throughout Thailand, which originate in Bangkok. However, you can fly to Chiang Mai from Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. If you are traveling with your family throughout Southeast Asia, Air Asia just might be the airline for you. As their motto says, "Now Everyone Can Fly."

Air Mandalay

Air Mandalay only operates locally within Southeast Asia. They fly to Chiang Mai from Mandalay (via Rangoon). The flight only operates on Thursday and Sunday. It is unlikely you will be using Air Mandalay for your trip to Chiang Mai, but check out their website if you wish to include them in your travel plans.

Lao Airlines

Lao Airlines is similar to Air Mandalay in that it operates locally in Southeast Asia. They fly to Chiang Mai every day from Vientianne, Laos (via Luangprabang). The flight returns to the capital of Laos on the same day.

Domestic Flights from Bangkok

The flight path between Bangkok and Chiang Mai is always filled with airlines that fly to Chiang Mai. Thai Airways is the national carrier in Thailand and it operates flights throughout the day. Bangkok Air, Air Asia, one2go, and Nok Air fill in the gaps so you can find flights to Chiang Mai just about anytime during the day. SGA Airlines now offers shuttle flights from Chiang Mai to Chiang Rai, Pai, and MaeHongson. All of these domestic airlines offer online bookings for less cost than purchasing tickets through a travel agent.
