Flight of the Gibbon
The Flight of the Gibbon treetop adventure is for both thrill seekers and nature lovers. The ride through the rainforest canopy on a series of ziplines, bridges and repels takes about three hours. It allows each visitor to view jungle life from a perspective that was previously only available to researchers. This type of ecotour was first established in the rainforests of Costa Rica. It allowed biologists to study life in the rainforest in an up close and personal way. Flight of the Gibbon has taken these same ideas and has made it possible for average people to see life in the rainforest canopy from a unique perspective. The Flight of the Gibbon tour begins with a drive from your hotel in Chiang Mai, to the village of Mae Kompong. Located about 55 minutes east of Chiang Mai city. The tour is designed for all types of visitors. It is an easy descent along a downhill network of ziplines and bridges. There are treehouses and platforms along the descent which make it possible to stop and relax and take in all of the sights and sounds of an old growth forest. A rainforest has several layers and each layer can be viewed during the course of the tour. The tour is designed for persons aged seven years and older. Younger children can be included in the Flight of the Gibbon adventure, but they need to be harnessed to a responsible adult. The weight limit for the tour is 150kg, or about 330 lbs. This is due to the limit of the body harness. The ziplines and bridges are tested to hold several thousand kilograms. The cost of the tour is 2600 baht per visitor, but a discount is given for early or late pickups. This price includes lunch and round trip transfer to Chiang Mai. Flight of the Gibbon derives its name from the way gibbons swing through the rainforest canopy. The project also donates ten percent of all profit to gibbon conservation and other conservation activities. For more information please visit the Flight of the Gibbon page. |
