Chiang Mai Rock Climbing

When rock climbing is talked about in Thailand, most people will think of Southern Thailand. Krabi has become well-known as an international rock climbing destination. Railey Beach is the most popular spot for Krabi rock climbing. However, Chiang Mai rock climbing is becoming well-known also. Just like Krabi, Northern Thailand has a vast limestone landscape. These limestone formations went unnoticed for a long time. In the past few years, Chiang Mai rock climbing has seen much development. The main climbing area is Crazy Horse Buttress, located about 20 miles outside of Chiang Mai city.

Chiang Mai rock climbing is centered around limestone formations in the secluded hills and farming valleys of Mae On. It is not uncommon to be cheered on by local hunters and farmers as you make your way up the rock. During cool season, the climbs are very pleasant with many light breezes to keep the heat at bay. Use the daytime hours to climb and the evening hours to explore the Chiang Mai night bazaar.
